Your probably wondering why I haven’t written Meesha’s story. I had her story begin in “How we decided to get a third dog” but I never wrote about Meesha on her own. I have waited to see how her personality and temperament were beginning to form. She is now 5 months old and a real firecracker!
Meesha story begins
Let me start from the day we picked her up and brought her home. We took Jackie out in the backyard and introduced her to Meesha. They sniffed each other, then Jackie walked away while Meesha stood very still. Then we brought Miya out to Meesha. Well Miya first sniffed then ran around her. Then nudged her and ran around her. Meesha watched for a minute. She then tried to chase Miya. I say she tried since her little puppy legs couldn’t keep up with Miya. From that moment on Miya became Meesha’s big sister, best friend and forever playmate.
The next day Meesha began to test her surroundings a lot more. Miya was always looking out for little sister to make sure she wasn’t getting into too much trouble. By trouble I mean bugging Jackie. She thought she would nuzzle up beside Jackie and take a nap. Well Jackie was having nothing to do with that and gave a big bark. Meesha fell backwards and Miya came and took Meesha’s attention.
Over the next couple of weeks we all got accustomed to having a new puppy in the house. Well maybe not completely used to it. We forgot the potty routines of every few hours throughout the night. Peeing and pooping when and where she felt like it in our home. In Miya’s story I talked about how easy Miya was to train since she followed Jackie right from the start. Well Meesha is a completely different puppy. She does what she wants to do. That said, she is a quick learner. Teaching her to sit, and stay; heel and walk nicely was quite easy since she listens attentively. In Meesha`s case she comes when you call her! Not like some of her other siblings.
Meeting with the Veterinarian Dr. Susie
Our first meeting with Dr. Susie was great. Meesha was “oohed, aahed” and cuddled by the office staff. She was given a clean bill of health. Dr Susie outlined and scheduled the expected puppy shots. She also gave us some great tips to do with Meesha, but also to ensure smooth den rules with Jackie and Miya.
Meesha takes Obedience Training
We signed Meesha up for 6 weeks of Obedience Training with Doggie Central. Alyson was our trainer, and Meesha made a best friend with Skye, a border collie. Over the next 6 weeks, Meesha and I attended class (Doggie Central is on our Product & Services page). We went home armed with our practice homework ready to work together. However Miya had other things in mind.
Lesson learned – Practise your puppy training away from the other dogs in your house.
Meesha and I were fine when the training was just the two of us. When Miya was around, she wanted to be part of the training or should I just say she just wanted Meesha’s (not mine) attention and play with her. So plan a separate time and place in your day to practise your training.
Well Meesha graduated on all counts of what we were expected to have completed. (Read my post of picking the right training for your dog). Now if I can just get Miya back in order since she seems to have forgotten a few things and is a very bad example for Meesha.
Meesha at 5 months old is full into teething
Meesha is a wonderful chewer. She loves her nylobones, her ropes, her squeeker, her kong, but also slippers, chair legs and door frames. UGH…. The teething for puppies is about 4 to 7 months of age. So we still have a month or two to go. I know when her teeth are bothering her. So I freeze different things like Kongs or give her cold carrots to help sooth her gums. Her canines are the hardest to come in. I can see the big teeth pushing the little canines out of the way. Chewing helps push the little ones out. If they don’t come out on their own, Dr. Susie will have to intervene. So here’s hoping! I have also been lucky to save a tooth or two. I have many of Miya’s, but with all the play fighting the two do its hard to find a tooth! So keep checking on those teeth and the teething, and keep in mind this too shall pass!
So enjoy your puppy keeping in mind all the wonderful new beginnings you will have and try not to focus on puppy trials and tribulations. Most of all keep your patience and have a lot of fun. Before you know it they will be 2 years old!
Welcome to Meesha’s story!
This really begins the story of Meesha. With her help I will be writing her story from puppy, to living years, to becoming a golden girl. There are many similarities with Jackie and Miya but Meesha truly is her own dog and it will be interesting to see how her story unfolds!
