Its spring time the time when newly engaged couples are planning their wedding event! Whether your day is small, medium or large having your four-legged best friend as part of it is becoming ever more popular. With the increase of acceptance of friendly, well-trained, and well-behaved pets in public places, it only makes sense to include them in one of the most important days of your life!

Having your best dog included in your wedding party is somewhere to start. Perhaps they can be a ring bearer and escort you down the aisle. Or hold your hand as your read your vows to each other.  Many couples include their pets in pictures from engagement, to wedding day to perhaps on the honeymoon as well. There are many possibilities, just remember to check with everyone that is acceptable  to have your pet at the different wedding locations.

What kind of role can my pet take part in? Flower Girl or Ring Bearer?

Most couples consider having their dog walk down the aisle during your ceremony as the flower girl or ring bearer. Keep in mind this does come with some challenges not to mention you need to be okay with sharing the stage, since you know your dog will steal some of the spotlight.

If you have dreamed of having your female dog as your flower girl, perhaps you can have a collar of beautiful flowers (just makes sure they the flowers are not toxic for dogs) around her neck and down her leash.  Your four-legged ring bearer can have a fake ring attached to his collar. I would suggest the best man holding onto the real one! You can then add a bow tie to dress things up more.

Since you will be quiet busy at times during your day, please consider having a family member or friend be responsible for taking care of your dog. This includes a walk before the ceremony, as well as having a plan for your dog during the ceremony and at the reception.

Your Formal Wedding Photos

As for your wedding photos, work with your photographer before the wedding to find a scenic locations without any pet restrictions. Plan out what kind of pictures you would like and how your pets could be involved. When it comes to the actual day of the wedding, have a trusted friend responsible to bringing and taking care of your pet while the pictures are being done.

How about having your pup on top of your cake?

Many couples are including  the likeness of their pets into the cake topper. After all you are marrying into a family. If your pet can’t make it to the wedding, at least her or she can be a part of representing the new family. There are many custom cake topper companies found online that can create a likeness from a photo.
